Gardaí to crack down on domestic abuse during pandemic
An Garda Síochána has announced a crackdown on domestic abuse during the coronavirus pandemic.
The Garda National Protective Services Bureau (GNPSB) is overseeing the implementation of “Operation Faoisimh”, which is designed to ensure that victims of domestic abuse are supported and protected during the COVID-19 emergency.
The initiative will utilise Garda victim services offices across the State to facilitate phone contact with previous victims of domestic abuse to ascertain any existing issues of concern and to ensure the protection of families. Gardaí will immediately respond to any concerns.
Det Ch Supt Declan Daly of the GNPSB said: “I am conscious and aware that victims of domestic abuse can feel afraid and concerned at this time and I wish to assure those experiencing such abuse that An Garda Síochána are available and willing to assist you in this difficult time.
“The COVID-19 outbreak has not diminished our service and we are committed to your protection.”
