Hogan Lovells’ Mother and Baby homes pro bono work highlighted

The law firm is compiling a dossier of information on unmarried pregnant women who were sent to homes and whose children were forcibly adopted.

It is estimated there are 70,000 mothers who went through 14 homes. So far 69 lawyers at the firm have contributed 3,600 hours’ work to the project.

One of the partners involved, Faye Jarvis, recounted to the newspaper her interview with a woman who had become pregnant at 19 and whose baby was poorly treated and ultimately taken from her by a nun in the home.

“She followed the nun down the corridor but it was all too late,” Ms Jarvis said. “The doors closed and that was it. She never saw him again.”
