HOMS Solicitors hosts insurance conference in London for first time

HOMS Solicitors has hosted its annual insurance conference in London for the first time following its expansion into Britain last summer.

Key personnel within the Irish and UK insurance claims market attended a series of presentations and workshops on the theme of The Financial Lines and Casualty Claims Environment in Ireland.

The conference was opened by Dr Hugh O’Donnell, CEO of Ingenium Training and Consulting, and moderated by John Murray, former Chief Justice and European judge.

Michael Murphy and Wayne Finn, senior associates at HOMS, outlined the current financial lines claims landscape in Ireland with a focus upon the most likely risks faced by solicitors, accountants, insurance brokers and construction professionals.

Emerging risks in the financial lines sector, such as cybercrime and GDPR, were assessed together with a discussion on the impact of technological disruption and effective risk minimisation strategies.

Robert Kennedy and Donal Creaton, partners at HOMS, set out the current casualty claims landscape in Ireland, including an interactive valuation exercise on two real redacted cases.

The conference also discussed personal injuries litigation reform and the recommendations of the Cost of Insurance Working Group.

The day was closed by Dr O’Donnell, who summarised the various presentations, and managing partner Harry Fehily, who thanked all present for their ongoing support.
