Human rights lawyer to speak at TEDxUCD 2015
Human rights lawyer Maeve O’Rourke has joined the list of speakers at the TEDxUCD 2015 conference in December.
Ms O’Rourke, who is practising as a barrister in London, will join academics, scientists and business figures at the independently organised event taking place in the UCD Student Centre on Friday 4 December.
She has previously worked for the international women’s human rights organisation Equality Now, the Massachusetts Office of the Child Advocate (pro bono) and Just for Kids Law.
Her work on the Justice for Magdalenes campaign saw her named UK Family Law Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year in 2013 and awarded the inaugural UCD Alumni Award in Law a year later.
Ms O’Rourke is a graduate of the UCD Sutherland School of Law and Harvard Law School. She is currently researching for a PhD at Birmingham Law School on the human rights of older persons to freedom from torture and ill-treatment.
TEDx events bring people together for conferences similar to the official TED events organised by the non-profit Sapling Foundation.
Free tickets for TEDxUCD 2015 will be available on the UCD website from Wednesday 11 November.
