ICCL to host seminar on right to access a lawyer
The Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL) is hosting a seminar tomorrow (26 January) on the right of access to a lawyer in criminal proceedings.
Solicitor Shalom Binchy will speak at the event, as well as Libby McVeigh, legal and policy director at Fair Trials International.
The seminar will examine how changes to the law governing access to legal advice in police custody are working in practice.
It will also refer to the experience of practitioners in other European Union jurisdictions to identify lessons for legal professionals.
It takes place in the Westbury Hotel in Dublin at 6.30pm.
The civil rights group will use the event to launch its latest publication, Implementation of the Right of Access to a Lawyer: Training Manual, and a new JUSTICIA animated education video on procedural rights.
You can RSVP to the event by contacting jason.omara@iccl.ie.
