Immigration lawyers to host joint CPD event
The Irish Immigration Lawyers’ Association (IILA) and the Irish Asylum and Citizenship Bar Association (IACBA) are to host a joint CPD event for the first time this Friday.
While in-person spaces for the event in the Distillery Building this Friday 1 March, 2pm-4pm are now fully booked, the event can be attended online for free. More information can be found on the registration page.
IILA chairperson Thomas Coughlan and IACBA chairperson Michael Conlon SC will welcome members to the associations’ first-ever joint event, which will be accredited with two CPD points for both barristers and solicitors.
Speakers include Katie Mannion, solicitor at the Irish Refugee Council, on “Material Reception Conditions, New Safe Country designations & procedural Changes for International Protection Applicants”; David Leonard BL on “National security deportation and procedural rights”; and Sunniva McDonagh SC on topical issues in immigration law and practice.
The event, organised by Siobhan Clabby BL on behalf of the IACBA and solicitor Carol Sinnott on behalf of the IILA, builds on a collaboration which began last December.
“The opportunity to share knowledge and experiences benefits us all,” they said. After the event, a reception will be held in the Sheds at the Distillery Building where “the two tributaries of the legal profession can converge and confluence”.
