A new initiative to support law firms to hire displaced legal professionals has been launched at a conference in Dublin.

The Displaced Legal Talent Initiative (DLTI), created by charity Talent Beyond Boundaries (TBB) in collaboration with DLA Piper and Dechert, was unveiled at the PILnet Global Forum in Dublin, which brought together hundreds of public interest lawyers from across the world.

TBB is now working with the UK government on a pilot scheme which will reduce the administrative burden in hiring displaced talent and the visa processing time.

Marina Brizar, TBB director for the UK and Europe, said: “As TBB continues our mission to create more job opportunities for displaced people, we are proud to present this initiative alongside our partners DLA Piper and Dechert, which aims to change the lives of skilled lawyers and contribute to the richness and diversity of the legal environment in the UK.”

A pilot group of law firms including Ashurst, DLA Piper, Dechert and Fragomen are currently working collaboratively to hire displaced lawyers. TBB plans to recruit a second cohort of law firms in spring/summer 2023 and said it is “looking for forward thinking law firms to join this initiative”.
