NI: #InPictures: Long meets stalking legislation campaigners ahead of bill
Justice Minister Naomi Long has met campaigners for new legislation on stalking as she prepares to introduce a bill to Stormont.
Ms Long, who has committed to bringing forward legislation as a matter of priority, met Ciara Hindman and her mother yesterday.
Ms Hindman was seriously assaulted by her ex-partner in February 2019 after a sustained campaign of harassment.
The Department of Justice said Ms Long “listened to their personal experienced and outlined what she is doing to introduce legislation on stalking and Protection Orders in Northern Ireland”.
Charity Victim Support NI added in a tweet: “We are delighted to see Naomi Long working with campaigners as moves are made to introduce specific laws in Northern Ireland to deal with stalking.
“The issue has been in the press this week and it’s clear from the reaction that there’s an appetite for laws to be updated here.”
