Ireland for Law completes trade mission to New York

Representatives of the Irish judiciary, government and legal professions have returned from a New York trade mission to promote Ireland as an EU hub for conducting international legal business.

Ireland for Law organised a series of events in Manhattan from Tuesday to Thursday with support from Bank of Ireland, Dillon Eustace, JAMS, Mason Hayes & Curran, Matheson, McCann FitzGerald, Paul Weiss, Reed Smith and William Fry.

Participants included High Court president Mr Justice David Barniville, Attorney General Rossa Fanning SC, junior Department of Justice minister James Browne and Ireland’s consul general in New York, Helena Nolan.

Mr Browne said: “I was delighted to participate in this important trade mission to New York to highlight the benefits of using Irish legal services.

“Events such as these create opportunities to promote the many advantages to the international business community working with Irish legal professionals, particularly in areas where Ireland is already recognised as a world leader in aviation, finance, funds, insurance, tech, pharma and life sciences.

“Speaking as a qualified barrister myself, it has also been really encouraging to see some of Ireland’s many excellent legal professionals representing our country and being recognised for their expertise.

“I would like to congratulate Ireland for Law for hosting these very engaging and highly productive events and look forward to the strengthening of links between Ireland and the US as a result.”

Ireland for Law was established with government support in 2019 as part of Ireland’s response to Brexit. It includes The Bar of Ireland, the Law Society of Ireland and Arbitration Ireland.

This week’s visit to New York forms part of a continuing series of international events highlighting Ireland’s unique attributes as a centre for international legal services to a US audience of senior commercial lawyers, counsel, and executives.
