Ireland's top seven law firms earned €720m last year

Ireland’s top seven law firms earned €720.2 million last year, almost a third of the €2.3 billion total earned across the legal profession, according to a new report by The Lawyer.

The revenue figures in the European 100 report suggests the “Big Seven” are in rude financial health, despite uncertainty created by the Brexit vote and the election of US President Donald Trump.

Revenues at Arthur Cox are up 7 per cent to €144 million, A&L Goodbody up 4 per cent to €138.3 million, McCann FitzGerald up 2 per cent to €121 million, William Fry up 4 per cent to €88.4 million, and Mason Hayes & Curran up 7 per cent to €77 million.

Dillon Eustace remained unchanged at €36.5 million, while Matheson alone in seeing a decrease by 10 per cent to €115 million.

The average revenue generated per lawyer across the top firms was €420,070, putting them ahead of the top firms in Denmark (€400,480), the Netherlands (€387,070), France (€353,180), Sweden (€349,340), Finland (€342,140), Spain (€298,140), Belgium (€260,160), Austria (€240,160) and Portugal (€225,170).
