Judge Eugene Regan nominated for further six years on CJEU bench
Judge Eugene Regan has been nominated by Irish government ministers for reappointment to the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) for a further six-year term.
Judge Regan has served on the court since 2015 and became, in 2018, the first Irish judge ever to be elected president of a chamber.
The terms of office of 14 judges of the court will end on 6 October 2021. Judge Regan will be interviewed by an EU panel to establish his suitability for reappointment before a decision is made.
A graduate of University College Dublin, the University of Brussels and the King’s Inns, Judge Regan spent decades in practice as a barrister and a brief stint as a Senator prior to his appointment to the court.
