Kevin McQuillan joins Walkers Jersey as partner
Northern Ireland lawyer Kevin McQuillan, who left Belfast for Jersey almost a decade ago, has joined offshore firm Walkers as a partner.
A graduate of Queen’s University Belfast, Mr McQuillan trained and qualified with Mills Selig before practising with Arthur Cox LLP.
He moved offshore to Jersey in 2014 and was sworn in as a Jersey advocate — equivalent to a barrister — in 2019.
Mr McQuillan is now the sixth partner in Walkers’ Jersey office, working in the investment funds and corporate practice group led by managing partner advocate Jonathan Heaney.
He advises US and UK private equity sponsors, institutional clients, sovereign wealth funds, hedge funds and HNWIs on M&A, private equity, equity capital markets and restructuring mandates.
He has acted on numerous take-private transactions implemented by members’ scheme of arrangement as well as the first take-private in Jersey of a Jersey-listed company implemented by a statutory merger under the Companies (Jersey) Law 1991.
Mr Heaney said: “Our investment funds and corporate practice group has almost doubled in headcount in the past three years in response to increasing client demand across M&A, advisory and restructuring work.
“Jersey’s popularity as an offshore structuring choice amongst tax advisers and onshore counsel in London and further afield continues to strengthen, and Kevin’s experience and expertise across the full range of Jersey corporate work will enhance our offering to clients.”
Fraser Hern, head of Walkers’ Channel Islands business, said: “With six partners bringing a diverse and complementary skillset across all aspects of Jersey funds and corporate law, and a fully integrated offering across Jersey, Guernsey, BVI, Bermuda, Irish and Cayman law with our Guernsey, London and Irish colleagues, our offering in the European timezone is having a real impact with clients.
“Kevin’s reputation in the market and his experience further strengthens and enhances that client offering, and we are delighted to welcome him aboard.”
