King’s Inns triumphs in ICC Moot Court Competition
A team from the King’s Inns has won the International Criminal Court (ICC) Moot Court Competition in the English language.
The final round, held on a hybrid basis with judges sitting in The Hague and students participating by video link, saw competing teams present oral arguments in a fictitious case in the roles of the Office of the Prosecutor, the defence and the legal representatives of victims.
The competition was judged by Judge Althea Violet Alexis-Windsor, presiding, and ICC legal officers Cynthia Chamberlain and Farhaan Ahmed.
The winning team comprised Sinéad Murphy, who also won best speaker, Áine Smyth, Patrick Flynn, Clíodhna Buckley and Barry Donovan. They were coached by Céile Varley BL and Gary Moloney BL.
Teams from the China University of Political Science and Law and Emory University School of Law in the USA respectively won second and third places.
This version of the ICC Moot Court Competition is organised by the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies at Leiden University and the International Bar Association (IBA). Top students of 76 universities from 42 countries from all continents participated in the preliminary stage.
