The email, which some solicitors received on Friday, purports to contain a “February Round-up from Representation and Member Services”, but was not sent by the Law Society and does not come from a @lawsociety.ie email address.

In a notice on its website, the Law Society said: “For the avoidance of doubt, this email has not been sent by the Law Society. Members should not click on any link in the email, and should delete it without delay.”

It believes the email could be part of a phishing scam, in which recipients are tricked into downloading dangerous attachments or handing over sensitive information in the belief that it is coming from a legitimate institution.
