The Law Society of Ireland is to honour its first female president with the naming of the Moya Quinlan Lecture Theatre.

Ms Quinlan, who passed away in 2019 at the age of 99, qualified as a solicitor in 1946 and was elected to the Law Society Council in 1968, where she was consistently re-elected for the next 45 years.

She played a key role in the acquisition of the Law Society’s premises at Blackhall Place and became the Society’s first female president in 1980/81.

The Law Society will tonight host guests, including members of Ms Quinlan’s family, for the unveiling of the Moya Quinlan Lecture Theatre within the Education Centre.

The naming of the theatre is part of a series of initiatives marking 2023 as the centenary of the first admission of women to the roll of solicitors in Ireland.

“We are proud to further commemorate this milestone and honour the groundbreaking women of our past with the naming of the Moya Quinlan Lecture Theatre,” the Society said.
