NI: Lawyers encouraged to respond to consumer law consultation
Northern Ireland lawyers have been encouraged to respond to a Law Commission of England and Wales consultation on consumer law and insolvency.
The consultation on consumer sales contracts concerns a draft bill which would reform the rules governing the transfer of ownership of goods to consumers in England and Wales.
While the Law Commission can make recommendations only for England and Wales, the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which the draft bill seeks to amend, applies throughout the UK.
The law reform body has said it “would like the [UK government] to consider implementing our recommendations throughout the United Kingdom, after appropriate engagement with the devolved administrations”.
The consultation will close on 31 October 2020.
