NI: Lawyers for IRA man shot in 1972 seek inclusion in PSNI probe

Lawyers for an IRA man alleged to have been killed by a secretive British military unit have launched proceedings against the PSNI over his exclusion from a new investigation.
Belfast firm KRW LAW LLP is representing the family of Daniel McAreavey, who was shot and killed in the Lower Falls in October 1972, The Irish News reports.
The family believes he was deliberately targeted by a covert unit sometimes known as the Military Reaction Force (MRF) and that his shooting should be included in a new PSNI probe.
Pre-action letters have now been sent to the PSNI and the Public Prosecution Service (PPS).
Solicitor Kevin Winters said: “Given recent British government pronouncements on the conflict we are seeing an even greater need for judicial intervention on contentious killings.”
