Legal partnerships to be introduced in autumn
Legal partnerships are to be introduced this autumn, the Legal Services Regulatory Authority (LSRA) has confirmed.
A new page on the LSRA website provides more information about the new business structure, which will allow barristers and solicitors to form partnerships for the first time.
Some barristers have criticised the new legal partnership model, arguing that it would undermine the independent referral bar.
Others have told ILN the impact will be hard to predict — though the government’s hope is that the partnerships will lead to reduced legal costs.
The LSRA has begun to introduce a suite of new and revised regulations and a code of practice for practising barristers to pave the way for legal partnerships.
An 11-page FAQ document published yesterday explains what legal partnerships are, how they can be formed and how they must conduct themselves.
