Legislation to be drawn up within days on gardaí access to Labour Court
Legislation to give gardaí access to the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) and the Labour Court will be drawn up in the next few days, the Irish Independent reports.
Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald reportedly told the Association of Garda Sergeant and Inspectors (AGSI) that legislation would be drawn up on a faster timescale than originally expected.
Ms Fitzgerald was expected to receive a report on the issue in December, but has reportedly fast-tracked the process as part of ongoing pay negotiations with AGSI.
A source told the Irish Independent that Ms Fitzgerald told the AGSI that she was “absolutely committed” to the reforms.
The source added: “That will require legislative change, so the Tánaiste has asked her officials to start work on preparing the necessary legislation.”
