Letter: District Court practitioners must not be forgotten
Dear Editor,
Colleagues and others are contacting me regarding the Claire Byrne interview [on Monday]. My colleague Seán Guerin SC made it clear that the Bar Council protest on the 3rd of October is for the restoration of fees to barristers who deal with indictable matters in the higher courts only.
- Minimum Circuit Court case fee: €1,144.00
- Typical District Court case fee: €67.00
Is the Bar Council standing over the outrageous fees paid to barristers practising in the District Court?
What steps does the Bar Council intend to take on behalf of barristers practising in the District Court? District Court barristers will be supporting their colleagues in the higher courts on the 3rd of October.
How can the 66 per cent attrition rate in the District Court be reversed?
