Maynooth appoints Dr Joe Garrihy as assistant professor in criminology
Maynooth University Department of Law has announced the appointment of Dr Joe Garrihy as an assistant professor in criminology.
Dr Garrihy previously held lectureships at Birmingham City University and the University of Winchester in the UK and at Maynooth.
A specialist in penology, his research also addresses broad issues, lived experiences and policy across the fields of criminal justice and beyond.
He holds a PhD in criminology from University College Dublin based on his mixed methods study examining the occupational cultures and identities of prison officers in Ireland.
Dr Garrihy is currently working on a number of projects across jurisdictions, institutions, and fields including a study of ‘cocooning’ in prison with the chief inspector of prisons, Patricia Gilheaney, and his Maynooth colleague Dr Ian Marder.
