Maynooth students hear from Irish lawyer advising Ukrainians on war crimes
Maynooth University students recently enjoyed the opportunity to hear from Aonghus Kelly, the Irish lawyer serving as a senior adviser on the prosecution of international crimes in Ukraine.
Mr Kelly, who is currently in Kyiv, remotely joined the event hosted by the recently-established International Law Society, which also heard from Michelle Drury, Marichka Vladymyr and Dr John Reynolds.
Kenneth Henry, founder and president of International Law Society, said: “This event was the biggest event we had so far since the society was set up in the spring.
“The first part of the event consisted of hearing from a number of speakers, including Aonghus Kelly, who works for the European Advisory Mission to Ukraine.
“The second section consisted of an audience-based discussion on how effective people think international criminal law is, particularly in relation to a superpower.
“We also talked about Ireland’s neutrality, a topic which has come into focus since the start of Putin’s war on Ukraine.”
