Mediators pay tribute to Peter Cassells on retirement from Maynooth
Tributes have been paid to Peter Cassells for his contribution to mediation following his retirement as executive director of the Edward M Kennedy Institute for Conflict Intervention at Maynooth University.
The Mediators’ Institute of Ireland (MII) said the former trade union leader had made an “immense contribution” to the “development of conflict resolution and alternative dispute resolution in Ireland over many years”.
Margaret Considine, MII president, said: “Peter, through his extensive work in the trade union movement, as General Secretary of ICTU, his prominent role in developing the Social Partnership model and through his recent term at the Edward M Kennedy Institute, has demonstrated over 50 working years how facilitation and mediation can deliver substantial dividends to individuals, communities and society at large.
“At a time when we are faced with a possible no deal Brexit and increasing political divisions across the world, Peter has been an outstanding proponent of the power of negotiation and moderation. His career achievements have inspired many of us to work as mediators. We wish Peter a very happy and healthy retirement.”
