NI: Motorists fined more than £4 million for driving in bus lanes
Motorists have been fined more than £4 million over the past four years for driving in Belfast’s bus lanes.
A third-party contractor uses fixed CCTV cameras and a mobile CCTV camera vehicle to record unauthorised vehicles illegally driving in bus lanes.
Figures from the Department of Infrastructure reveal that £4.3 million has been raised from penalty charge notices (PCNs) issued between 22 June 2015 and 28 February 2019.
One fixed camera in Donegall Square East has raised £1.5 million alone, while a camera on Great Victoria Street has raised over £890,000.
