Mr Justice Kevin Cross to speak on 225th anniversary of 1798 rebellion

Retired High Court judge Mr Justice Kevin Cross will deliver a lecture next week to mark the 225th anniversary of the 1798 Rebellion.

Inspired by the French and American revolutions, the Society of United Irishmen launched a four-month rebellion against British rule, which failed and ultimately led to Ireland’s incorporation into the UK in 1800.

The Courts Service is hosting a special celebration of ‘United Irishmen, Dissenting Irishwomen, Principled Lawyers, and the Revolutionary Ideal of Equal Representation’ at Green Street courthouse next Wednesday 15 November.

Mr Justice Cross will deliver his lecture, titled The Treason Briefs: Corrupt Judges and Hostile Juries; Curran’s defences of the United Irishmen in the 1790s, at 6pm.

Tickets are extremely limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis. RSVP to communications@courts.ie before 8 November 2023.
