Ms Justice Ann Power appointed as chair of CervicalCheck Tribunal
Ms Justice Ann Power, a serving judge of the Court of Appeal, has been appointed as chairperson of the CervicalCheck Tribunal.
She succeeds Ms Justice Mary Irvine, the former Court of Appeal judge who was appointed to chair the tribunal in 2018 but gave up the role on her appointment as president of the High Court earlier this summer.
Mr Justice Tony O’Connor of the High Court has also been appointed as an ordinary member of the tribunal, joining retired judge Mr Justice Brian McGovern, whose appointment was announced earlier.
The tribunal, established by the CervicalCheck Tribunal Act 2019 last summer on the recommendation of Mr Justice Charles Meenan, is still not operational, having been delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Health Minister Stephen Donnelly said: “The tribunal will allow women to progress their cases in a sensitive manner. I want to thank all three judges for taking on these roles and look forward to engaging with them.”
The health minister also said the CervicalCheck steering committee will be reconvened shortly following the appointment of an independent chair.
