Ms Justice Caroline Costello appointed as Court of Appeal president
Ms Justice Caroline Costello has been formally appointed as president of the Court of Appeal.
She was chosen by government ministers in July this year to succeed Mr Justice George Birmingham, who held the post since 2018.
President Michael D. Higgins formally appointed Ms Justice Costello to the post yesterday, according to The Irish Times.
Justice minister Helen McEntee said: “Ms Justice Costello is an experienced judge of the Court of Appeal, with valuable expertise across all areas of law.
“I would like to congratulate Ms Justice Costello on her appointment and wish her well in her new role as president of the Court of Appeal.”
Ms Justice Costello was educated at University College Dublin, the University Oxford and the King’s Inns, calling to the Bar in 1988 and becoming a senior counsel in 2010.
Her judicial career began with her appointment to the High Court in 2014, followed by her elevation to the Court of Appeal four years later.
