Ms Justice Eileen Roberts appointed to Law Reform Commission
Ms Justice Eileen Roberts has been appointed as a part-time member of the Law Reform Commission.
The High Court judge was previously a solicitor with A&L Goodbody, specialising in commercial litigation and serving as both head of litigation and chair of the firm. She specialised in large-scale commercial disputes including property, financial services, insurance, maritime and aviation disputes.
She was a committee member of the Commercial Litigation Association of Ireland (CLAI) and chaired the group which drafted the Good Practice Discovery Guide for use in court proceedings. She is a CEDR-qualified mediator and a former committee member of the Irish Commercial Mediation Association.
Ms Justice Roberts was appointed as a judge of the High Court in July 2022, where she sat in the chancery division until she was assigned as a judge of the Commercial Court in October 2023.
Her appointment to the Law Reform Commission will see her replace Ms Justice Niamh Hyland, who has been a commissioner since May 2021 and will step down in February.
Former chief justice Frank Clarke, president of the Commission, said Ms Justice Roberts’ experience in commercial law would be of great benefit to the Commission in its work programme. He also thanked Ms Justice Hyland for all of her work with the Commission.
