Retired Supreme Court judge Ms Justice Marie Baker has reflected on her legal career in a new interview published by The Irish Times.

The interview traces landmark moments in Ms Justice Baker’s career, including the emotional impact of PP v HSE [2014] IEHC 622, the high-profile case involving a pregnant woman who was brain-dead but kept on life support because of the State’s strict abortion laws.

Educated at University College Cork and the King’s Inns, Ms Justice Baker qualified as a barrister in 1984 and became a senior counsel in 2004.

She was appointed to the High Court in 2014, to the Court of Appeal in 2018, and then to the Supreme Court in 2019 before retiring this year.
