Ms Justice Niamh Hyland to become Court of Appeal judge
Ms Justice Niamh Hyland is to be appointed to the Court of Appeal in one of a series of judicial appointments approved by ministers yesterday.
The High Court judge will fill the vacancy arising from the resignation of Ms Justice Úna Ní Raifeartaigh in order to be appointed to the European Court of Human Rights.
Nessa Cahill SC has been nominated for appointment to the High Court, filling the vacancy created by the elevation of Mr Justice Michael MacGrath to the Court of Appeal.
Meanwhile, Sineád McMullan BL and Roderick Maguire BL have been nominated for appointment as judges of the Circuit Court.
High Court judge Ms Justice Karen O’Connor and the District Court’s Judge Fiona Lydon have been nominated for appointment to the Special Criminal Court, replacing Mr Justice MacGrath and Judge Cormac Dunne.
