New book set to explore relationship between law and technology

Information and Communications Technology Law, published by Clarus Press, examines the way in which the development of information and communications technology (ICT) is shaped by legal rules and the way in which ICT is changing how law is developed and implemented.

Dr Kennedy is a lecturer at NUI Galway School of Law and Dr Murphy is a lecturer at Maynooth University School of Law.

Speaking to Irish Legal News, Dr Kennedy and Dr Murphy said: “A key motivation for this book was to produce an accessible and up-to-date text that would demystify the relationship between law and technology.

“The broad range of topics covered in this book demonstrates the entanglement of technology with all aspects of modern life. This book illustrates how many common themes arise in the legal topics discussed and recognises that continuous change in the law is likely in light of ongoing technological and societal development. Indeed, some aspects of the law were reformed as the text was being written.

“We are pleased to have covered many recent developments including the General Data Protection Regulation, the Criminal Justice (Offences Relating to Information Systems) Act 2017, and crypto-currencies.

“We aim to deliver a practical, accessible, and critical text that will provide a solid grounding in ICT Law.”
