Brigid Napier, president of the Law Society, said: “As we approach the Law Society’s centenary year, it is important to look forward to the next 100 years and take proactive steps now to ensure a prosperous profession for future generations.

“Whilst there may be challenges ahead, it is necessary to be responsive to the constantly changing legal environment, to take advantage of opportunities and identify emerging trends within the profession.

“Climate change, as highlighted by the recent COP26 conference, is undoubtedly a major challenge facing society today, and one that solicitors need to be prepared for given the inevitable implications on clients, firms, and the wider profession.

“Similarly, technological change requires our attention given the emergence of automation, AI, the increase in remote working and court hearings, and the continued, sustained threat of cyber crime targeting solicitors and their clients.”

The two new groups will be established under the Law Society’s future of the profession committee and those interested in joining them have been invited to complete and submit a form by 14 January 2022.

There are separate expression of interest forms for the climate justice group and the law tech group.
