No 'big six' firms have yet signed up to equitable briefing policy

None of Ireland’s ‘big six’ firms have yet signed up to the Bar of Ireland’s equitable briefing policy aimed at promoting equitable briefing amongst male and female barristers, according to reports.

The equitable briefing policy was launched at the start of March with support from the government and the judiciary amid high hopes that many firms would sign up to the scheme.

DLA Piper, Maples and Calder and RDJ LLP are the largest firms to have become signatories to the policy, the Business Post reports.

According to the newspaper, a number of the larger firms have asked the Bar for clarification around the reporting requirements included in the policy, which include a confidential annual report on their briefing practices.

A spokesperson for the Bar said: “We appreciate that systems and processes differ by entity, so we are engaging with all firms, to ensure that the benefits for clients and for firms can be fully realised.”
