GenoME Diagnostics raises £1.4m in funding round

Belfast-based cancer diagnostics company GenoME Diagnostics has closed a £1.4 million funding round which will be used to further develop its lead product OvaME, a novel blood test for earlier and more accurate detection of ovarian cancer.

Tughans Solicitors advised the start-up on the funding round, which followed a pre-seed funding round of £300,000 in 2021.

This new £1.4 million funding round will allow the team to complete the testing phase, file for EU regulatory approval and expand its regulatory approach to the UK and North America.

Tughans’ corporate associate director Brendan Donnelly advised on the fundraising round.

McKenzies Ltd acquires Peak Environmental

Belfast waste management company McKenzies Ltd has acquired Derry-based recycling company Peak Environmental.

Turley Legal advised McKenzies on the transaction while Caldwell & Robinson Solicitors advised Peak.

The acquisition of Peak — which will be rebranded — will expand McKenzies’ network of sites further across the island of Ireland.

The Turley Legal team was led by director John Turley.

The Caldwell & Robinson Solicitors team was led by managing partner Philip Gilliland.

Management buy-out at Albert Fry Associates

The management team at Belfast-based structural and civil engineering consultancy Albert Fry Associates has successfully completed a management buy-out.

McMahon McKay, the Northern Ireland office of Spencer West, acted for the management team in the transaction for an undisclosed sum.

Established in 1987, Albert Fry Associates has grown from its Belfast headquarters to include fully resourced offices in Derry and Dublin.

Partner John McMahon and associate Lauren McGarry acted for the management team.
