Northern Ireland health trust to pay substantial damages to bereaved mother
A bereaved mother has received “substantial damages” from the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust and the Northern Ireland Hospice following a settlement ending legal action over alleged medical negligence.
Christina Campbell, whose daughter Jessica died at four months old after being diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder, instructed Phoenix Law to bring proceedings before the High Court in Belfast.
Darragh Mackin, solicitor for Mrs Campell, told UTV: “Today’s payment of substantial damages, signifies the importance of the lessons learned as a result of her campaign. It is hoped that lessons can now be learned to ensure no other family has to go through a similar experience.”
In a statement, Mrs Campbell said: “We sincerely hope that as a result of these proceedings, lessons can now be learned and systems put in place, to ensure no family has to go through the horrific and life-changing experience we as a family had to, as a result of avoidable mistakes.”
