Northern Ireland young solicitors support Ukraine appeal

The Northern Ireland Young Solicitors Association (NIYSA) has donated £2,000 towards a grassroots humanitarian emergency appeal organised by Belfast-based solicitor Joanna Tobolska-Walczuk.

Ms Tobolska-Walczuk and her sister are organising an emergency collection of the most needed items for the war refugees, which is being supported by the Law Society of Northern Ireland.

NIYSA chair Ruaidhrí Austin said: “I spoke with Joanna who tells me that the response to her emergency appeal has been incredible with donations of enough blankets, clothes, toiletries, food and water to fill four trucks.

“The collected items are to be transferred to Poland to be distributed along the Polish-Ukrainian border.”

The £2,000 donation will be used to pay for the costs associated with transporting the donated items from Northern Ireland to Poland.

Mr Austin added: “I have personally been communicating with the chair of the youth committee of the National Association of Lawyers of Ukraine, Mr Sergiy Barbashin, and confirmed that young solicitors in Northern Ireland stand at the ready to provide whatever assistance necessary to any refugees affected in the current conflict.”
