Part-time coroners paid more than €100k in 2014

The latest Coroner Service figures show that 40 coroners received €3.17m in aggregate gross fees over the course of the year.

The fees include a basic retainer and a per-case fee.

A spokesperson for the Coroner Service told The Irish Times: “A coroner is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week 52 weeks per year to deal with reports of sudden deaths in his or her area.”
