Paul McLaughlin KC appointed to Northern Ireland's High Court

Paul McLaughlin KC has been appointed as a judge of Northern Ireland’s High Court.

Mr Justice McLaughlin was sworn into office before Dame Siobhan Keegan, the Lady Chief Justice of Northern Ireland, on Friday.

A graduate of Trinity College Dublin, Mr Justice McLaughlin was called to the Bar of Northern Ireland in 1997 and took silk in 2020.

His practice at the Bar focused on public law including judicial review applications in all areas of government administration. He also has experience in the areas of planning, environmental law, public procurement, education and human rights.

Donal Lunny KC, chair of the Bar Council of Northern Ireland, said: “As chair of the Bar Council I offer many congratulations to Paul on behalf of the Bar on his appointment as High Court judge today.

“Paul is a brilliant lawyer and we know that his considerable legal knowledge and expertise, his vast experience, and his common sense will be invaluable to him as a judge in the years ahead. 

“We wish him every success as he embarks on this exciting new phase of his career.”
