PILA welcomes Shamika Dwarika as pro bono development officer
The Public Interest Law Alliance (PILA) has announced the appointment of South African lawyer Shamika Dwarika as its new pro bono development officer.
Ms Dwarika relocated to Ireland to join PILA, a project of legal rights group FLAC, after seven-and-a-half years as regional director of NGO ProBono.org in the eastern South African city of Durban.
An admitted attorney in South Africa with right of appearance in the magistrate and high courts, she holds an LLB degree from the University of Natal (Howard College) and an LLM degree in business law from the University of KwaZulu Natal (Howard College).
Ms Dwarika is a trained facilitator, has a basic counselling qualification and is a certified taxing master in the magistrate and high courts of South Africa.
During the course of her career, she has lectured and practised in the commercial and non-profit sectors in various provinces in South Africa. She also served as acting registrar of the country’s Labour Court prior to joining ProBono.org.
