Professor Aoife Nolan elected president of European Committee of Social Rights

Ireland’s Professor Aoife Nolan has been elected president of the European Committee of Social Rights, which oversees the European Social Charter.
During its plenary session yesterday, the committee also elected:
- Vice-president, Eliane Chemla (French);
- Vice-president, Tatiana Puiu, (Moldovan);
- General rapporteur, Kristine Dupate (Latvian)
Aoife Nolan is a professor at Nottingham University’s School of Law.
She has published and commentated widely on a range of areas, including the connection between poverty and human rights, the impact of austerity on human rights, the relationship between economic policy/budgets and human rights, and children’s rights.
She has also done work on human rights and housing, education and social security. Her research focuses on the UK, Ireland, South Africa, India, the US and Latin America.
