Prosecution of dozens of dissident republicans collapses
A court has dismissed charges against dozens of people who allegedly took part in an illegal dissident republican parade after a successful challenge to the prosecution evidence.
A total of 43 people — 35 men and eight women — were charged with failing to comply with conditions put in place by the Parades Commission and taking part in an unnotified parade following an event in Newry in October 2019.
The case collapsed on 30 December 2022 after defence lawyers highlighted that a determination issued by the Parades Commission in advance of the parade was not presented to the court as evidence.
The defendants were represented by solicitors Clíodhna Hardy, Gavin Booth and Darragh Mackin of Phoenix Law, alongside counsel team Aoife Macauley and Kevin Magill.
