Rule of law NGO appoints Anne-Marie Blaney to Northern Ireland post
Irish Rule of Law International (IRLI) has appointed Anne-Marie Blaney as the NGO’s new Northern Ireland programme lawyer.
Admitted to practice by the Law Societies of England and Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland, Ms Blaney is active as an independent mediator, a lecturer in law, and a tutor and assessor in mediation.
She is also incoming chair of the access to justice and legal aid committee of the International Bar Association (IBA), a non-executive director of Mediation Northern Ireland, and a member of the Mediators’ Institute of Ireland and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb).
Commenting on her appointment, Ms Blaney said: “I am delighted to join IRLI because of the scope for impactful work. Through harnessing the skills of Northern Irish and Irish lawyers, in conjunction with our overseas partnerships, rule of law will be strengthened.
“It is wonderful to join an agile and committed team of colleagues, working to tackle injustice, and promote the rule of law.”
Founded in 2007, IRLI collaborates with academics, judges, legal practitioners, policy-makers and civil society around the world to advance collective knowledge of the relationship between rule of law, democracy, sustained economic development and human rights.
The project was originally founded by the Law Society of Ireland and The Bar of Ireland, with the Law Society of Northern Ireland and The Bar of Northern Ireland joining in 2015.
