Shalom Binchy to be appointed to District Court
Criminal defence solicitor Shalom Binchy has been nominated by ministers for appointment as an ordinary judge of the District Court.
Ms Binchy will fill the vacancy arising from the retirement of Judge Brian J. Sheridan in March.
A graduate of University College Dublin, she qualified as a solicitor in 1996 and founded her own firm, Shalom Binchy & Co Solicitors, in 2002.
She was appointed to the Policing Authority in 2021 and has also served as a member of the Law Society of Ireland’s human rights and equality committee since 2020.
The government has taken the necessary steps to formally advise President Higgins of the nomination in accordance with constitutional practice.
