Six Garda stations are set to reopen following a report from the Garda Commissioner.

Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan briefed Government yesterday on the Commissioner’s decision to reopen the stations at:

  • Stepaside and Rush in Dublin;
  • Leighlinbridge, Co Carlow;
  • Donard, Co Wicklow;
  • Ballinspittle, Co Cork
  • and Bawnboy, Co Cavan.
  • The report was commissioned following a Government commitment to establish a pilot scheme to reopen six of the more than 130 stations closed in the aftermath of the 2007 financial crisis.

    The Garda Commissioner has now written to the Office of Public Works to progress the reopening.
