The inaugural IronLaw North South Triathlon Challenge sees three solicitors representing the Law Society of Ireland compete against three solicitors representing the Law Society of Northern Ireland today.

The race begins with a 3.86 km swim in Ballyshannon, Co Donegal, passing through counties Leitrim, Fermanagh, Cavan, Meath and Kildare before finishing at the Law Society of Ireland’s headquarters at Blackhall Place in Dublin.

Louth solicitor Ivan Feran will swim for the southern team before handing the baton to Dublin solicitor Stuart Gilhooly, a past president of the Law Society, who will cycle 180 kilometres before handing the baton to Donegal solicitor Brian McMullin for the final 42 km marathon.

Meanwhile, for the northern team, Peter Jack from RG Connell & Son in Limavady will swim; Darren Toombs from Carson McDowell in Belfast will cycle; and Adam Wood from Campbell & Haughey Solicitors Ltd in Lurgan will run.

Speaking ahead of the contest, Mr Gilhooly said: “All funds raised will go directly to supporting less fortunate colleagues and their families through the Solicitors Benevolent Association. The sad truth is that solicitors and their families still experience hard times but, as a profession, we have always come together to support them and help see them through.”
