Of those, 14 were subject to less serious sanctions including censures and fines, while three were subject to more serious sanctions, including recommendations they be struck off the roll of solicitors or suspended from practice.

The tribunal was formally established in November 2020 but only commenced holding inquiry hearings in mid-2023.

Introducing the 13-page report, chairperson Tom Coughlan said: “For the year ahead, 2024 will see the Tribunal in its first full year of operation.

“It is anticipated that the workload and number of inquiry hearings will increase, which will bring its own challenges.”

The tribunal considers complaints of misconduct against solicitors and barristers.

Applications are brought to the tribunal by both the complaints committee of the Legal Services Regulation Authority (LSRA) and the Law Society. No applications are accepted from members of the public.
