Sports law association to host inaugural conference in Dublin
The Sports Law Bar Association of Ireland (SLBA) has announced it is hosting its inaugural conference in Dublin this March.
The conference – taking place on Friday 23 February, a day before Ireland plays Wales in the Six Nations – will deal with complex issues including concussion liability and anti-doping.
Dr Ross Tucker, chief scientist with World Rugby, will take part in a Q&A session.
Tim O’Connor BL will speak on Irish sport and concussion liability, while Louise Reilly BL will speak on developments in anti-doping law.
The conference will be chaired by Mr Justice David Barniville, who was chair of the SBLA before his recent appointment to the bench.
Commenting on the event, Robert McTernaghan BL, secretary of the SLBA (pictured), told Irish Legal News: “The interest has been phenomenal. We’ve got interest from people within sports governing bodies, and solicitors, barristers and counsel, both north and south.”
Mr McTernaghan said the SBLA, founded just six months ago, had garnered a remarkable amount of interest and would continue to grow.
