Substantial settlement and apology in medical negligence case
The family of a woman who died from breast cancer after a delayed diagnosis have received a substantial settlement and a public apology from the HSE.
Lynn Rocke passed away of metastatic breast carcinoma on 16 March 2020, having been diagnosed in March 2018.
Her husband Kieran subsequently sued the HSE for failing to intervene earlier, with Mrs Rocke having undergone mammograms since 2010.
Galway University Hospital has accepted there were failings in the care provided to Mrs Rocke.
Seán Fitzgerald of HOMS Assist, representing Mr Rocke, said: “We welcome today’s outcome and the closure it brings — the admittance of failings in care by the HSE and the compensation awarded to Lynn’s husband Kieran, and their three children Stephanie, James and Sean.”
He added: “Unfortunately, this is yet another tragic case which again highlights the urgent need for systemic improvements in our healthcare system.”
