The Bar of Ireland hosts dinner to celebrate women in law
The Bar of Ireland yesterday hosted a dinner at the King’s Inns to celebrate women in law.
The Women at the Bar working group, chaired by Grainne Larkin BL and Imogen McGrath BL, hosted the dinner in commemoration of International Women’s Day 2016.
It was attended by a range of judges, barristers and solicitors, including the Director of Public Prosecutions Claire Loftus, Chief State Solicitor Eileen Creedon and Aoife McNickle BL of the Irish Women Lawyers Association (IWLA).
Irish Legal News spoke to Ms McNickle, the IWLA’s new chairperson, last month on the continuing need for the organisation.
Ciara Murphy, director of The Bar of Ireland, opened the evening by setting out The Bar’s commitment to understanding the challenges faced by women at the Bar.
Keynote speaker Louise Phelan, vice president of global operations for PayPal in EMEA, shared her insight and experience as a woman in business.
