Three-quarters of recommendations on fixed charge processing system implemented
Almost three-quarters of the Garda Inspectorate’s recommendations on modernising the fixed charge processing system (FCPS) have been implemented, according to a new report.
Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan and Transport Minister Shane Ross today published a progress report on the implementation of 2014 recommendations aimed at bringing the system into the 21st century.
In total, the FCPS working group said 22 of the 38 recommendations have been fully implemented, five additional recommendations have been accepted with modification and therefore concluded, and 11 long-term recommendations remain ongoing.
Mr Flanagan said he welcomed the group’s “active consideration of a future vision for the FCPS”.
Mr Ross added: “I am pleased to see the publication of this report, and the progress which has been made towards implementing the 38 recommendations of the 2014 Garda Inspectorate Report.
“I would like to acknowledge the contribution of members of the working group and those from the various stakeholders who have contributed to the completion of 27 of the Inspectorate’s recommendations, and to significant progress on others.
“From my own perspective, I am particularly pleased to see progress with the Master Licence Record project. When fully completed, this will be an extremely valuable tool for addressing road traffic offenders. We should not forget that the end purpose of this exercise is not just to improve the operation of the FCPS – it is, ultimately, to make our roads safer, by reducing loss of lives and serious injuries on Irish roads.”
